Team Rapid City Meets with Black Hills & Badlands

Today, Team Rapid City met with the Black Hills & Badlands Tourism Association to talk about the future of tourism in Rapid City.

It’s a question we hear every year: Are we over-tourism’d?
Short answer: no.

Tourism is real work for real families, and it keeps a major part of our local economy moving. Hotels, restaurants, attractions, events and small businesses all depend on it. A recent KELOLAND story asking “What is a tourism job?” highlights just how broad and essential that workforce really is.

The bigger agreement in the room was this: Rapid City deserves year-round tourism, not just a three-month rush. That means steadier jobs, stronger partnerships, smarter infrastructure and more reasons for people to visit in every season. The Destination District is a public gathering place meant to serve residents and visitors for generations to come.

Growth isn’t the problem. Smart growth is the solution.
And a stronger tourism economy means more support for schools, parks, public safety and the services our community relies on.

A big thank-you to both Black Hills & Badlands Tourism Association and Visit Rapid City for the work they do every day to promote our region and think long-term about its future.
